BOONVILLE, IND. – The Mount Carmel boys swimming team opened the 2016-17 season in a triangular meet held at Boonville High School on Monday night.

The host Pioneers won the meet with 151 points. Gibson Southern took second with 61, just ahead of Mount Carmel with 50.


The Golden Aces won one event, as Boyd Holt easily won the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:07.69. Grady Wilkinson took second in a strong 100 butterfly field, in a time of 1:10.69. Holt also took second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:35.11.

Mt. Carmel’s best event showing came in the 100 yard breastroke, where Wilkinson finished second in 1:18.96 and Cameron Whaley third in a time of 1:26.18.

The Golden Aces have five swimmers on the team, and all scored individual meet points. Holt led the way with 13 points, followed by Wilkinson with 10. Whaley totaled seven points, Tyler Johnston added four, and Levi Woollard finished with two. The other 14 points came on relay event scoring.

Mount Carmel travels to Jasper, Indiana on Saturday morning for a multi-team invitational meet. The first event goes off the blocks at 9 a.m. Illinois time.
