The Mt. Carmel wrestling team which hits the mat for the first time Wednesday at the Hilltop will be more balanced than in years past.

“In the past we’ve been young. Now, we’re starting to get a bit older,” said coach Michael Cheesman, who sends his sixth team out for the first time against Wood Memorial. “It’s good to have that kind of experience and to have that balance.”

Already with a spotless record of achievement and service in education, there is nothing that tops the life story of Mt. Carmel High School Principal Pat Cheesman more than his love for the sport of wrestling.

It is a passion so strong that two sons are carrying the torch forward, and is a passion that culminates on Saturday with his induction into the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Hall of Fame in the western suburb of Countryside. He will be the first from Mt. Carmel to be so enshrined.
