Mt. Carmel scored more points in forfeits than on the mat Wednesday night in the season-opening wrestling match against Wood Memorial.

The Aces received five forfeit wins to account for 30 of the points in a 48-30 dual-meet win at the Hilltop. Aaron Wood (113 pounds), Kane Garcia (182), Cody Wall (195), Andrew Wise (220) and Chase Linson (heavyweight) all received forfeit wins.

Wood Memorial received two forfeit wins, at 145 pounds and at 152. One match, at 106 pounds, was a double-forfeit.

On the mat, it was an 18-18 dual. The Aces got wins from Beau Taylor (160) and Parker Wilkinson (170), both by pin. And, both matches were important as they were the final two of the night, with the Aces holding on to a narrow 36-30 lead at that point.

Mt. Carmel (1-0) also got an on-the-mat win from Logan Johnson, who recorded a pin at 138 pounds.

Wood Memorial, who had some varsity wrestlers with five bouts under their belt already this season, swept all four exhibition matches.

The Aces travel to the Lawrence County Invitational in Lawrenceville Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
