FLORA, Ill. — Malarie Hargrave was under the weather on Tuesday, but decided to play her singles match against Flora anyway.

Though she lost that match 6-5, 6-1, Hargrave “got a second wind after singles,” according to Lady Aces coach Patty Bramlet, and took the court with No. 1 doubles partner Elise Thomason. The two won a third-set tiebreaker, 10-4, a win that clinched a 5-4 Aces victory.

“They did not realize the match came down to their match,” Bramlet said. It turned into a championship match after singles play resulted in a 3-3 split. Tyra Buss and Hannah Seaton had already won their doubles match to tie the match at 4-4.

In addition to Hargrave’s stoic play, Bramlet was impressed with Thomason. “She continues to improve her doubles play,” she said.

Buss, Thomason and Carly Reeves all won singles matches.

For Buss, it was the 67th straight regular-season victory of her undefeated prep career.
