MOUNT VERNON, INDIANA – Mount Carmel finished fourth in the boys Big 8 Conference swimming championships on Saturday –their best finish in the brief history of the program.

Jasper won the meet with 351 points, beating the host Wildcats by 51 points. Boonville finished in third place, with 290 points. The Golden Aces were next with 84 points, followed by Vincennes Lincoln with 45. Princeton and Washington do not field a boys swimming team.

The girls Big 8 meet was held concurrently, with Mount Vernon winning that title. Mount Carmel could not compete, since swimming is a fall sport offering in Illinois.

Boyd Holt led Mount Carmel in scoring with 15 points. He placed fourth in the 100 yard backstroke and ninth place in the 200 yard individual medley. Senior Grady Wilkinson took sixth in the 100 yard freestyle and eighth in the 100 yard breaststroke for a total of 14 points.

Levi Woollard placed 10th twice – in the 50 free and 100 free for a total of six points.

Cameron Wayley took 10th in the 100 breaststroke and 11th in the 200 freestyle for a total of six points.

In addition, the four combined to score points in two relays.

Wilkinson, the senior son of Jerry and Jill Wilkinson, was named the winner of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Character Counts Award. He was presented the plaque during the meet.
