LAWRENCEVILLE, ILL. – Mt. Carmel earned its first win of the volleyball season on Tuesday night in Lawrenceville, sweeping past the hosts in straight sets, 26-24 and 25-17.

The Lady Aces may have benefited from having already played their season opener one night earlier. For Lawrenceville, coached by former Lady Aces standout Trinity Britton, it was their debut.
“With four of seven primary positions being filled by new players and only eight practice days between tryouts and the first match we anticipated there would be some challenges and opportunities,” Britton said. “Overall the team was solid offensively, but we need to be more aggressive in general.”
Mt. Carmel (1-1) returns to the Hilltop on Thursday for a non-conference game with regional power Edwards County.
