MT. CARMEL, ILL. – To some, silence is golden.

But not on a volleyball court. And not in the middle of a game.

Princeton defeated Mt. Carmel, 3-0, in Big 8 Conference volleyball at the Hilltop on Tuesday night. Its what was not being said that was most disconcerting to Lady Aces coach Kelsey Beckerman.

MT. CARMEL- The Lady Aces volleyball team faces their toughest test of the young season Thursday night with a trip to perennial state powerhouse Edwards County. But, without a senior on the roster, the Aces have learned a thing or two already.

Tuesday, against Lawrencville, the Aces almost stole a game which would have clinched a win over a Lady Indians barely its’ senior, with three upperclassmen on the roster. First-year coach Kelsey Beckerman took note of the effort and improvement, despite the 0-2 start.

MATTOON, Ill. – Mt. Carmel put up a fight before exiting the IHSA Class 3A state volleyball series Monday night.

Effingham eliminated the Lady Aces with a 2-1 victory. After the Flaming Hearts took the first game, 25-17, Mt. Carmel bounced back to even the match with a 25-22 win. Effingham overpowered the Lady Aces in the decisive third game, 25-12.

“It was a great match,” said Mt. Carmel coach Beth Bunting. “Effingham is a hard hitting team with a lot of height and power. Our front line did an excellent job stopping and taking the heat off of Effingham’s hits. It took Effingham back and it allowed us to put them on their heels. Effingham definitely had to work for their win tonight.”
