FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Due to illness and commitments, the Mt. Carmel girls track team took only nine athletes to the 10-team Fairfield Invitational Friday.
That was still good enough as the Lady Aces rolled to the championship with 155 points, easily outdistancing second-place Christopher (101 points). Flora (62), Patoka (58) and Eldorado (55) rounded out the top five.
Tyra Buss had three individual event wins on the day, in the 100 high hurdles, 300 low hurdles and the 800 run.
Sophomore Dylan Marshall finished first twice, in the shot put and discus. She broke her own school record in the shot put with a heave of 38-feet, 5-inches).
Madi York claimed a first in the high jump and took sixth in the triple jump.
Two relays also prevailed: the 4x800 (Madeline Jones, Makayla Tomblinson, Natalie Laws and Elise Thomason) and the 4x400 (Callie Dunkel, Laws, Tomblinson and Buss).
Thomason took second in the 800 and 1600. Jones finished second in the 3200 and third in the 1600.
Dunkel took second in the 400, third in the triple jump and fourth in the 100 high hurdles.
Senior Reagan Keepes, headed to John A. Logan in the fall on a golf scholarship, added a second in the discus and fourth in the shot.
Tomblinson was third in the 400 and fifth in the 3200.
Natalie Laws doubled in the 300 low hurdles and the long jump, where she took fourth and fifth, respectively.
