JASPER, IND. – The Mount Carmel High School boys swimming team traveled to Jasper, Ind. for its’ second meet of the season on Saturday, the multi-team Wildcat Invitational.

Bloomington North, Ind. won the 10-team boys meet with 516 points. Terre Haute North as next with 485 points, followed by Heritage Hills (336), Jasper (315) and Evansville Reitz (301) rounding out the top five. Evansville Mater Dei came in sixth with 176, followed by ell City (146) in seventh, Northeasst Dubois (40) in eighth, Evansville Harrison (12) in ninth, and Mount Carmel (9) in 10th.


There was also a nine-team girls meet held concurrently. Mount Carmel’s girls swimming season is in the fall. Bloomington North prevailed there as well, with 561 points.

Boyd Holt led the way for Mount Carmel in scoring with a 10th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.21, and a 15th-place finish in the 200-individual medley (2:33.74)

Despite having just four swimmers in the meet, the Golden Aces were successful in lowering times and recording season bests in almost every event. In the 100 breast, for example, first-time swimmer Tyler Johnston’s time of 1:45.93 was an improvement of more than 41 seconds from last Monday's ’s season-opener in Boonville, Ind. Cameron Whaley recorded a 20th-place finish in the same event, and his time of 1;25.08 was more than one second better than the first meet.

Whaley’s best performance may have been in the 100 freestyle, where his time of 1:08.07 was more than 13 seconds better than on opening night. In the same event, Levi Woollard’s time of 1:30.95 knocked 4.5 seconds off his previous best.

As for Holt, his backstroke time was more than 2.5 second faster, and his IM time was better by 1.4 seconds.  

The Aces next swim meet is January 5 in Mt. Verrnon, Ind.
