The two senior Lady Aces softball players who shared most of the headlines ended up sharing the biggest awards on Thursday night at the team’s season-ending banquet at Hogg Heaven.


LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — The season is over for the Mt. Carmel Lady Aces softball team. Lawrenceville eliminated the Aces from the IHSA Class 2A Regional tournament, 13-3, on Monday.

Lawrencveville now moves into the semifinals of the five-team tourney. The Lady Indians will face No. 1 Newton today (Tuesday). Fairfield and Flora play on Wednesday in the other semifinal. The winners play on Saturday in the championship.

At Cisne, the hosts defeated Grayville, 8-2, in Class 1A play.


CENTRALIA, Ill. - The two top teams in the NJCAA Region 24 softball tournament are headed for an 11 a.m. showdown today. Both Wabash Valley and Lake Land won first-round games on Tuesday, and will clash today in the double-elimination tourney.

WVC (36-8) eased past Southwestern, 12-2, while Lake Land (46-5) defeated Olney Central, 6-1 in the other game played in the oft-delayed tournament. Southwestern (15-27) and Olney Central (31-23) will play today at 9 a.m. in an elimination game, before the Warrior-Laker dual.

Lake Land holds a 3-1 series edge over Wabash this year. But, the Lady Warriors are the only team to defeat the Lakers since they returned from their southern swing in March.


The Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors swept past Southwestern on Monday to advance on to the NJCAA Region 24 Final Four this weekend.


CARTERVILLE, Ill. — John A. Logan knocked the Lady Warriors out of the Great Rivers Athletic Conference softball race on Sunday. The Vols’ 4-0 victory in the first game eliminated WVC from the race, and clinched the title for Lake Land.

Even with a 13-3 victory in the nitecap, the Lady Warriors (26-4 in GRAC) are three games in back of Lake Land (29-1) with two games remaining.
