It must have been a long bus ride home to Herrin after the Tigers went the whole day without winning one tennis match against Mt. Carmel Monday on the WVC courts.

Malarie Hargrave may have been playing No. 3 singles for the Lady Aces on Wednesday against visiting Carbondale. But, by the time her match ended, she was carrying the entire weight of the team on her shoulders.

HERRIN, Ill. — The Mt. Carmel Lady Aces tennis team won three individual titles en route to the team championship at the Herrin Invitational on Saturday.

The Aces, coached by Patty Bramlet, piled up 21 points to easily outdistance the field. The host Tigers and Mahomet-Seymour finished in a tie for second place with 11 points. Massac County and Peru St. Bede were next, with nine points each, good for a tie for fourth. Carmi finished in sixth (8 points), followed by Metro East-Lutheran (4) and Herrin’s JV team (3).

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — The Lady Aces tennis team split four matches over the weekend at the Heather Bradshaw tournament.

Mt. Carmel went 2-2 in matches played, losing to Morton and Springfield High by identical 3-2 margins, before bouncing back to defeat Peoria Richwoods, 3-2, and Burbank Reavis, 6-3.

The Lady Aces tennis team is not afraid to come out swinging.

Perhaps the toughest match of the year is tonight’s season opener against Olney. The match begins at  4:15 p.m. on the Wabash Valley College Courts.

“They’re just deep with experience,” said Bramlet of the Lady Tigers.
