The soccer Aces opened up conference play with a road win against Mt Vernon, winning 3 - 2, on the strength of a hat trick by Beau Stipp. The Aces started off the scoring in the 9th minute when Beau scored on an assist from Britton Heinrich. Mt Vernon tied the game up in the 32nd minute, for a 1 - 1 score at the half. Mt Vernon then struck quickly in the 2nd half, taking a 2 - 1 lead just 2 minutes after the restart. Beau tied the game up with a goal in the 59th minute, assisted by Brady Decker. The game remained tied until Beau scored on a corner kick with 1 and a half minutes remaining to take the lead back for the Aces for good at 3 - 2. The Aces took 7 shots, 5 corners, and created 5 additional scoring chances. Mt Vernon took 20 shots, 10 on frame, and took 4 corners.

Our conditioning as a whole still isn't where we need it be. We have a short bench so players are needing to play some heavy minutes, and you can see it out on the field. The team's really gutting it out and playing through it, but you can see we're not doing some things we want to be able to do, at least partly because of having some heavy legs. That being said, we still really need to try to play through that and possess the ball better than we have the last few games. We're not being patient enough in our build up play through the field & we're trying to play long balls up ahead and hoping we get it. We've been able to squeak some wins out so far, but to get as good as we feel we can be we just need to continue to work on that and be more patient with a purpose when we have the ball. This group has shown the ability, it's just getting the committed mindset there, and getting in better condition.

The Aces next travel to Mt Vernon IL on Thursday for a non-conference road match. The win puts the Aces record at 4-1 (1-0).
