The Junior Aces boys track team finished first and the girls second at a meet Tuesday against their two county rivals and Parkview.

Mt. Carmel scored 79 points to edge Parkview (76) for the boys crown. St. Mary’s (18) was third and Allendale (13) fourth. Parkview took the girls meet with 61 points to Mt. Carmel’s 56. St. Mary’s finished a strong third (42) followed by Allendale (17).

Zach Whittler won twice and Stone Patberg once to lead the Junior Aces in the boys meet. Haley Maguire of MCMS won twice in the girls meet as did Morgan York of St. Mary’s. Addie Drone of St. Mary’s won one event.


OLNEY, Ill. — Led by Zach Whittler’s win in the 100, the MCMS Junior Aces track team finished fifth Saturday at the Olney Invitational.

Salem won the 10-team event with 98 points, followed by Red Hill with 88. Olney was third with 79 points, two points ahead of Carmi. The Junior Aces finished with 66 points.

Whittler claimed the only Junior Aces win by nipping Red Hill’s Holmes at the wire in the 100. Whittler, the seventh-grade state champion in the event last year, ran his fastest time of the spring to win in 11.0 seconds, just .1 ahead of Holmes.

Satchel Patberg finished second in the sixth-grade 100 in 13.77. Whittler took second in the 200, finishing behind Holmes with a time of 24.33 seconds.

Mt. Carmel’s sixth-grade 4x100 relay team also took second with a time of 1:01.

There were no field events at the meet.


Princeton spoiled the home opener for the Mt. Carmel Middle School track teams by sweeping the dual meet with the Junior Aces Thursday at Riverview Stadium.

In the boys meet, Princeton won 78-54, while the Lady Tigers took a closer girl’s dual, 69-59.


GEFF, Ill. — Jackson Marcotte led Allendale with five wins Thursday in a season-opening track meet at Geff. No team scores were reported.

Marcotte, an eighth-grader, won three field events and two more on the track. He cleared 5-foot-1 to win the high jump, won the discus in a distance of 129-feet 9-inches and took the shot put with a throw of 40-feet 8-inches.

He won the 200 meter dash in a time of 29.47 seconds and the 400 in 1:06.11.


LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. - Both the Mt. Carmel boys and girls track teams won titles at the Lawrenceville Invitational Wednesday.
The boys track team won all but one event in routing a three-team field here Wednesday. The Aces had 90 points to Lawrenceville’s 35 and 30 from Palestine.
Daxton Peach, Grady Wilkinson, Eli Evans and Cameron Peach each won two events, while Tony Miller, Gabe Margelin, Justin Spear and Sampson Margelin took one. All four relays prevailed as well.
“Coach Schwartz and myself were very pleased with how the boys competed today,” said Aces coach Darren Peach. “The 4x100 relay ran a very good time today and could challenge for the school record. The field events preformed well today also.”
The Lady Aces won in a five-team field with 137 points, besting Olney (105), Flora (59), Lawrenceville (42) and Palestine (2).
Tyra Buss had three individual event wins. Dylan Marshall and Callie Dunkel claimed two wins apiece, while Elise Thomason and Tegan Henne won once. The 3200m and 1600m relay teams also won.
