TROY, Ill. — The Mt. Carmel girls track team, bumped into the larger Class 2A division for this year’s track post-season, will still be sending athletes to next weekend’s IHSA state meet at Eastern Illinois University.

Junior Tyra Buss qualified for her third state track appearance and will go in three events while being joined by her teammates on the 4x400 relay which also advanced on.

The Lady Aces as a team finished eighth among the 19 teams who scored points in the meet. East St. Louis Sr. won the meet with 93 points, followed by Cahokia with 82. Host St. Jacob Triad finished third, followed by Carbondale and Herrin. Mt. Carmel finished with 22 points.

Buss qualified in the 100 meter high hurdles on time. Though she finished sixth in the finals, her time of 15.94 seconds was well below the automatic qualifying standard of 16.06.
In the 800, Buss finished in second place, though her time of 2:19.47 would have qualified her even with a lower finish.

She needed a fast time to advance in the 300 low hurdles. Only the top two advance on place. Buss finished third, but made it out based on her time of 46.79 seconds, below the qualifying mark of 47.84.

The Lady Aces 4x400 relay of Callie Dunkel, Hannah Seaton, Elise Thomason and Buss finished third in a time of 4:05.47, one of five teams to beat the qualifying standard.
