Golden Aces quarterback Reece Metcalf continues to move up the passing yardage leader board in Illinois.
The junior southpaw has now thrown for 2,269 yards in nine games. That total moved him from third to second among Illinois quarterbacks, according to maxpreps.com. Only Coy Dorothy of West Hancock has thrown for more yards – 2,650 – through the end of the regular season. Brandon Zachery of Rich South is third, with 2,262 yards. Metcalf is also listed in 67th place nationally.
Whereas Metcalf’s season goes on this weekend when Mount Carmel visits Columbia (8-1) in a first-rounds IHSA Class 4A playoff game on Saturday, the season is over for both Dorothy and Zachery. West Hancock finished with a 2-7 record, Rich South finished at 3-6.
Metcalf has thrown for 21 touchdowns, which ties him for second in that category as swell. Dorothy leads with 27, followed by Metcalf and Addison Bounds of Prairie Central, both with 21.
Levi Laws, Metcalf’s favorite receiver, is also among the state leaders, according to the website. Laws has 967 yards on 41 catches. The yardage total ranks him fifth. Jayen Zachery of Rich South leads, with 1,141 reception yards. Laws is 74th nationwide.
