Cross Country

You rarely see this many goals in a high school soccer match scored by both teams. It was almost like a baseball score.

The first 17 minutes were very good minutes by our players and then Boonville got one in to go up 1-0 and open the game. Captain Davis Vargo scored in the 26th minute on a crossed ball from Junior Grant Hockgeiger to even the score 1-1. This lasted all of a few seconds when Boonville got back on top 2-1. Boonville scored three more times before half and went in at half up 5-1. We allowed Boonville three more goals in the first seven minutes of the second half and went down 8-1.Credit needs to be given to our players for not giving up and getting three goals back to end the match 8-4. Captain Cameron Kieffer got our second goal on a ball from Vargo followed by an own goal. Two minutes later Senior Fabian Nordell got our final goal. The final three goals were from balls that we fought hard to win and were indicative of how much we have matured this season. It has been said that Boonville is probably playing better than they have ever played and for us to stay with them was a sign we coaches were glad to see. We had outstanding performances from several players tonight, central midfielder Vargo was on his game and may be deserving of the best performance of the year by any player. Hockgeiger also played very well from an outside midfield role but also from a central midfield role late in the match. Junior Parker Wilkinson and senior Derek Zimmer did a nice job through the middle of the field on defense. We face unbeaten Vincennes Lincoln tomorrow 9- 25 for another Big 8 match. We were seeded number two in our regional seeding and face three seed St. Anthony on 10-4 at Olney.
