It was if the Junior soccer Aces had engaged themselves in a game of one-upmanship.

“As good as we looked offensively,” said coach Ed Berberich after Tuesday’s 4-1 ISL win over Evansville SC, “this was one of our best defensive games of the year.”

It would be hard to argue that this was perhaps the best game of the year for the Junior Aces, now firmly entrenched in second place in the ISL with 13 points on a 4-2-1 mark, trailing only Owensboro Ligers (5-0, 15 points) in the league standings.

Simon Berberich had a hat trick with three goals in the win. Brayden Stipp scored the other

This was a rematch against an ESC club which had won the first meeting, 1-0, but on the WVC pitch things were completely different. The Junior Aces scored all their goals in the first half, then spending the final half frustrating the Evansville club with a physical brand of defense.

“It was a collective effort by Chandler Morris, John West, Taylor Kingsbury and Dawson Brown that put down most of ESC’s attempts to attack," Berberich said.
