POSEYVILLE, Ind. — Both Mt. Carmel and North Posey junior high soccer teams played from behind here on Monday night. The result? A 2-2 draw in the season opener for both clubs.
The Vikings scored first at the 19-minute mark, but the lead did not last for long. Kendall Thompson got the ball to Brayden Stipp in the 23rd minute, who scored the first goal of the season for Mt. Carmel, tying the match at 1-1.
That’s the way the scored stood until early in the second half.
Dawson Brown put a shot over North Posey’s keeper and into the goal, to give Mt. Carmel a 2-1 lead. An assist on the play went to Stone Patberg.
Then, with 25 minutes to play, North Posey evened things up again, on a shot on goal just out of the reach of Junior Aces keeper Stone Patberg.
On the game, Patberg had three saves in the net.
Coach Aaron Loudermilk, in his debut as Junior Aces coach, said they had opportunities to post the go-ahead goal late in the second half.
“John West and Dawson Brown both had great shots late in the game that just barely missed,” said Loudermilk. “We were able to put ourselves in scoring position several times and we need to keep doing that all season and we will come out on top.”
The next game for the Junior Aces is Saturday at Huntingburg, Ind., against the Forest Park Junior Rangers.
