MCHS Soccer Aces lose in double overtime 3-1 to Teutopolis Wooden Shoes in final of Regional Championship. We got on the scoreboard early from a goal scored by Senior forward Nate Jackson in the fourth minute of play when Jackson put in a rebound from a shot taken by Senior Forward Fabian Nordell.
This would hold until the 74th minute of play when T'town equalized to make it 1-1. This was our game to win but it was just not meant to be. We out shot the Wooden Shoes 8 to 3 in regulation play and collected 9 corner kicks to their 1. Our inability to only finish with 1 goal from all the shots and corner kicks we generated was not something we would expect at this point of the season.
This inability to finish when the opportunities are created is something that happens during the season but you hope for better finishing during tournament play. Our backline kept T'town frustrated most of the match with Senior Sweeper Derek Zimmer always there to clean up anything that got through. Our play through the middle of the pitch was again one of our strengths, but we had hoped to be more attack minded on the wings because of the wide field that Olney has to offer but this did not work as planned.
Junior Stopper Parker Wilkinson came off early with an injury forcing us to move winger Junior Grant Hockgeiger into the stopper role and take away Hockgeigers speed and crossing ability that would help spread out their defense. T'town scored the game winning goal in the 9th minute of first 10 minute overtime and again in the 4th minute of second 10 minute overtime period to get the victory 3-1.
At the start of the season there were more questions than answers with this team but in my 14 years of coaching never have individuals stepped up and filled the roles necessary to make us as successful as we were. Congratulations ACES!!!
