Tyra Buss has done it again!
After completely rewriting the Mt. Carmel basketball record book, after setting a new state scoring record by producing the second-highest points total in the history of U.S. girls basketball, Tyra Buss finished off her last piece of unfinished roundball business Friday night.
She was named Illinois Ms. Basketball for the second consecutive year.
And it wasn’t even close. Buss totaled 528 points in statewide balloting by media and school officials, and was named first on 96 of 164 ballots cast.
Jackie Kemph of Rolling Meadows was distant second with 208 points. Whitney Young’s Khaalia Hillsman was third (112 points) followed by Tori McCoy of St. Thomas More (84) and Jasmine Lumpkin of Joliet Catholic (83).
Buss, headed to Indiana University in the fall, scored 4,897 points in her career and averaged 45.8 points per game her senior season. She is the third back-to-back winner and fourth multiple winner of Ms. Basketball in the 27-year history of the award, which is co-sponsored by the Chicago Tribune and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
