Both Wabash Valley College basketball teams are on a roll as the Region 24 tournament opens today with play-in games.
Despite an overall mark of 12-18, the WVC men’s team has won four of its’ last five games heading into the post-season, capped off by an 80-69 win at Shawnee Saturday.The Warriors play at Lincoln Trail (13-16), a team they defeated 94-88 last Wednesday to earn a split of regular-season games, tonight (Monday) at 7 p.m.
The winner advances to the quarterfinal round Thursday at Rend Lake College, and will be tasked with trying to knock off top-seed Vincennes (28-2).
Lincoln Trail beat WVC in their last meeting in Robinson, 76-61, on Jan. 22.
Meanwhile, the 17th-ranked WVC women will carry the No. 1 seed into the women’s tourney, which begins Wednesday, also at Rend Lake.
The Lady Warriors (24-4) will face the winner of a Tuesday play-in game between Southeastern and Shawnee in the first game at 1 p.m.
WVC defeated Shawnee, 89-77, Saturday.
