LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — The Lady Aces cross country team finished second at the Lawrenceville Invitational on Saturday.
Mt. Carmel finished with 51 points, second to Olney’s 41. Newton finished third with 78 points, followed by Lawrenceville (82) and Salem (90). Dieterich had only two runners and did not register a team score.

Senior Tyra Buss led a tightly-bunched Lady Aces group with a third-place finish in a time of 20:20. Madeline Jones finished sixth, Elise Thomason 10th, Makayla Tomblinson 12th and Jenny Sutton 20th.

Simona Cargnino of Olney won the race in a time of 19:23, some 24 seconds ahead of Lexi Davidson of Newton.

In the boys race, freshman Grady Wilkinson finished fourth to lead the Aces, who sent only four runners. Wilkinson toured the three-mile course in a time of 17:25.

Dylan Brown finished 15th, Austin Rodriguez 27th and Andrew Carwile 36th for the Aces.

Olney won the boy’s title with 35 points. Dieterich was second with 76 points, followed by Lawrenceville (98) and Newton (124).
