After three straight emotionally-charged wins, Lady Aces Tim Willis worried about one thing heading into Wednesday night’s non-conference home against Carmi. That “L” word again - letdown. But, that’s what he saw.

“I didn’t think we played very well tonight. We were worried we might have a letdown, and we played kind of flat tonight,” said Willis after his team’s still easy 73-26 victory over Carmi.
Mt. Carmel remained undefeated on the season, at 9-0. Carmi fell to 3-6 with the loss.
“I know the score will look good in the paper, but I don’t think we played particularly well. But we got through it, and we’ll get ready for Jasper on Saturday.”
The Aces used their pressure defense to get off to a fast start, a 12-2 beginning that turned into a 20-8 lead at the end of the first period. By halftime, it was 44-10.
Willis returned the starters to the court for a brief time in the third, and called off the pressure shortly after reasserting control. “You come out in the third quarter, you want your starters to at least get the feel for it. The last thing you want is for Carmi to make a run and you have to bring your starter back in. It’s better to play them for a couple of minutes, get the flow going, then sub later,” he said.
Tyra Buss led the Aces with 31 points. Alyssa Lang finished with 13 points. Brandi Metcalf wound up with seven points, followed by Alex Rosignol with six.
The Aces were five-of-nine from the three-point line
Mt. Carmel won the junior varsity game as well, 44-14. Metcalf led the way with seven points, followed by Dylan Marshall and Abby Leighty with six apiece.
Jasper (5-0) visits the Hilltop on Saturday, at 1 p.m.
