The Junior Lady Aces swept past Olney St. Joe in action at MCMS on Tuesday night. The 8th grade team won, 32-31, while the 7th grade team prevailed, 44-1.
The varsity match up was a back and forth affair. After jumping out to a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Junior Lady Aces watched as St. Joe stormed back with a 16-3 surge that put the visitors ahead at the half, 16-13.
Vernon Higginson’s team bounced back by outscoring St. Joe, 10-5, in the third period to regain the advantage, 23-21, heading into a tense fourth period.
Eryn Gould led the five-win Junior Lady Aces with 15 points, including her team’s only 3-point field goal of the night. Natalie Laws scored nine points, followed by Kara Price with four, and Kylie Terrel with two.
In the 7th grade game, St. Joe did not score its’ sole point until a free throw was made in the fourth quarter. The Aces put three players in double figures: Kylie Applebey with 14 points, Baylie Ray with 11, and Holly Hawkins with 10. Haley McGuire added seven points, and Sarah Martin had two.
On Monday night, Amanda Hershey’s 7th graders defeated Owensville, 26-10. Hawkins led the way against the Kickapoos with 12 points. Applebey finished with six, Maguire with four, while Ray and Lauryn Wright had two points apiece.
