The Mount Carmel Junior Aces basketball team won the championship of its’ own pre-season tournament on Tuesday night with a 52-43 win over Albion. West Salem took third in the final standings with a 40-32 win over St. Mary’s.

The Junior Aces, after maintaining a four-point lead at each of the first three quarter stops, finally pulled away in the fourth quarter to record the nine-point win. Elihah Hadra led the way in the first half before Justin Carpenter took over in the second period.

Hadra scored  10 of his 14 points in the first two periods. Carpenter then hit for 14 of his team-high 17 over the final two periods. Lukas Hortin led Albion by matching Carpenter’s total of 17 points.

In the third place game, West Salem outscored the Rockets, 18-7, in the second half to rally to the win. St. Mary’s was paced by Jake Hocking, who scored 14 points. West Salem got 17 points from Nathaniel Schmittler.

Both teams hit their marks from beyond the arc line. West Salem hit five 3-point field goals, while St. Mary’s connected on four.

Six players were named to the all-tournament team. MCMS landed Hadra and Carpenter. Hocking also made the list from St. Mary’s.

Also named to the team were Hortin and Bobby Brake from Albion, and Schmittler from West Salem.
