CARMI - They needed an overtime period to get it done, but the Junior Aces eighth grade team recorded a win to finish off a sweep of the Carmi Bullpups on Thursday night.
Mt. Carmel outscored Carmi, 9-2, in the extra stanza, to win the game, 38-31. Daxton Peach led the Aces with 15 points, followed by Justin Carpenter with 10. Trevor Kennard ended up with eight points, Jacob Durham had four, and Elijah Hadra had one for the winners.
The night was a sweep for the Aces because the seventh graders prevailed in the opener, 32-27. In that game, the tandem of Blake Golden and Brayden Stipp led the way with 10 points each. Dawson Brown scored five, Austin Rager four, Brayden Peterson two, and Zach Whittler finished with one point.
• Mt. Carmel’s sixth grade boys swept Lawrenceville on Thursday. The ‘A’ team won, 39-24, behind the 13 points of Zack Sutton. Bret Doan added nine, and Jaden Merritt had seven. The ‘B’ team also won, 24-12. Elijah Laws led the way with 12 points. Brock Plassman chipped in six points, along with four other players with two points.
