A furious fourth quarter rally kept the eighth grade Junior Aces undefeated on the season. Mt. Carmel outscored Cairo, 19-8, in the fourth quarter to post a 57-52 victory on Thursday night at MCMS.
The Aces trailed 44-38 at the end of the third quarter. Daxton Peach scored nine of his 18 points in the final period to lead the charge from behind. As a team, the Aces hit nine of 10 free throws in the frame.
Also scoring in double figures for MCMS (8-0) were Elijah Hadra, Justin Carpenter and Trevor Kennard, with 10 points apiece. Jacpb Durham added six points, Sampson Margelin two, and Ryan Webb one for the winners.
Dave Taylor scored 30 points to lead the Pilots.
In the seventh grade game, Mt. Carmel also won a tussle, defeating Cairo in overtime, 59-56. The Junior Aces used a very balanced attack, with four players in double figures, to offset the onslaught of Cairo’s Demarius Taylor, who scored 40 points.
Dawson Brown led the Aces with 16 points. Brayden Stipp added 13 points, while Austin Rager and Evan Kieffer finished with 11 each. Blake Golden totaled six points, and Zach Whittler wound up with two.
The game was tied at 52-52 at the end of regulation. Golden took over in overtime, with five points, including 3-of-4 from the foul line. Brown countered with only four for Cairo.
