Illinois state lawmakers have found something they can agree on — Mt. Carmel’s Tyra Buss.

The House honored the reigning Ms. Basketball with a resolution which passed unanimously. The measure calls attention to the countless athletic and academic achievements attained by Buss, a senior this fall at the Hilltop.

Granted, there was no committee assignment or law associated with this measure. But, it was legislation passed at the statehouse in Springfield.

“It is a pretty simple process compared to passing a bill,” said state Rep. David Reis, who authored the resolution. “It is read on the House floor and then it’s approved. This is a fun part of the job.”

Buss was presented a copy of the document by Reis, who was joined by state Sen. Dale Righter for the presentation.

“I want to thank Representative Reis and Senator Righter for this great honor and recognition. It really means a lot,” Buss said.

Righter said the state senate presents “certificates but we can’t do resolutions. Whether I’m presenting a certificate or the House members are presenting a resolution, we do it all together. Because the kids deserve the recognition.”
