Manual DeJesus had four hits to lead Wabash Valley to a 14-10 non-conference baseball victory over Vincennes on Wednesday at WVC.

The Warriors overcame an early deficit then held off a late VU charge for the win. WVC is now 20-8 on the year and 2-0 against the Trailblazers this season with home and home single games remaining.

Vincennes fell to 12-12 with the loss.

An early 1-0 lead didn’t last long for Wabash as VU scored six runs in the top of the second. The Warriors closed the gap with four runs in the second, then regained the lead with three in the third to make it 8-6.

Five runs in the fifth followed by one in the sixth increased the Warrior lead to 14-6 and was enough to hold off Vincennes, which scored two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.

Miami, Fla. freshman righthander Ryan Quinterro, the second of five pitchers used by Warrior coach Rob Fournier, picked up his first win of the year.

VU pitchers issued 12 walks and hit three batters.

The Warriors open a three-game Great Rivers Athletic Conference series today (Thursday) at Lake Land, with a single game at 3 p.m. in Mattoon. A doubleheader follows on Friday in Mt. Carmel, with the first game starting at noon. WVC leads the GRAC with a 6-2 mark, one-half game ahead of Kaskaskia (6-3) in the standings. Lake Land is 5-12, and 1-5 in the GRAC.
