The Wabash Valley College baseball team is back in the NJCAA Top 20 rankings. And, the Warriors celebrated with a crushing victory on Friday in the opening game of a three-game weekend series.

The Warriors moved into 18th in the weekly NJCAA poll, after falling out of the Division I listing earlier in the season. The 22-2 romp over Shawnee (5-17) was the club’s fifth win in a row, and 16th in their past 18 games. WVC (29-9) will hit the road for Ullin on Saturday and a doubleheader on the Saints field.

Once past the first inning, WVC starter Spencer Drake was his usual commanding self on the hill, fanning 10 Shawnee batters while giving only four hits in six innings of work. By the time the Saints put up their second run in the seventh against reliever Patrick McGuff, the Warriors had scored 22 unanswered runs, including eight in the fourth.

Crowder, Mo. (30-5) took over the top spot in the juco poll this week after last week’s No. 1, Lamar, Col. (33-9) tumbled all the way to seventh. Tallahassee, Fla. (37-5) is second this week, followed by Iowa Western (29-7), Southern Nevada (27-9) and Grayson, Tex. (28-8).
