BRIDGEPORT, Ill. — Mt. Carmel’s 11-year-old all-star baseball team dropped its District 1 tournament opener Tuesday night.
Olney scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to overtake the Aces 11s and win, 7-5.
Mt. Carmel plays Lawrence Co. tonight at 7 p.m. in an elimination game. Olney routed the hosts, 29-1, Wednesday night in a four-inning game.
Trenton Wilkinson led the Aces 11 at the plate. He was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Beau Stipp gave Mt. Carmel an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first inning.
The Aces scored three times in the third to regain the lead 4-3, on RBI hits from Aaron Simmons and Thomas Stringfellow.
Wilkinson’s run-scoring hit came in the fourth to put the Aces up at the time, 5-4.
• At Olney, the Mt. Carmel 10-year-old all-stars also lost their District 1 opener, 11-9, to Lawrence Co. Tuesday. They face Lawrence Co., an 18-1 loser to Olney Wednesday, tonight at 7 p.m.
TUSCOLA, Ill. — The Olney 12-year-old all-star baseball team won its Section 1 opener Wednesday with an easy 12-1 win over Champaign West.
The Tiger 12s face Taylorville tonight in a winner’s bracket game. Taylorville defeated Rushville, 5-4, in the other game last night.
