FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Lawrenceville defeated Fairfield, 10-5, on Monday in the opening round of the IHSA Class 2A Regional baseball tournament.

The play-in game was played in Fairfield. The rest of the tourney will be played at Dee White Field in Mt. Carmel.

Lawrenceville, in picking up its’ second win of the season, now advances to the semifinal round. On Wednesday, the Indians will play No. 1 seed Flora at 4:30 p.m. Mt. Carmel (4-14), the No. 3 seed, opens post-season play on Thursday against second-seeded Carmi.

The championship game is set for Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner advances to the Teutopolis Sectional.

• In other games played on the first day of the state tournament series... At Casey, Robinson defeated the host Warriors, 2-1. At Eldorado, Hamilton Co. knocked out Eldorado, 10-7. And in Marshall, the host Lions defeated Newton, 5-1. In Class 1A, Hutsonville defeated Grayville, 11-1, in action at Hutsonville.
