JUPITER, Fla. — Former Wabash Valley College pitcher Keith Butler made his major league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday afternoon.
Butler a 6-foot righthander from Morgantown, Ky., pitched a scoreless ninth inning as the Cardinals won their first exhibition game, 10-2 over Houston, at Roger Dean Stadium.
Butler was the fifth pitcher of the day used by manager Mike Matheny. He surrendered a two-out double to left by Jake Elmore, but got the next batter.
Drafted out of WVC by St. Louis in the 2009 draft, Butler was 5-1 at Class AA Springfield, Mo. last year.
