At the end of three innings Friday, Edwards County led Mt. Carmel, 5-4. The Aces could not deliver in run-scoring opportunities after that, however.

When the Lions squeezed in a run in the top of the seventh, that was more than enough to secure a 6-4 non-conference win at Dee White Field.

Edwards County improved to 11-3 on the year with the win, while the Aces fell to 6-8.

“I told them they have a great ballclub,” said Mt. Carmel coach John Copeland. “We beat ourselves, we got outcoached and outplayed. It’s a loss that sticks in the back of your mind.”

Copeland said the Aces set the wrong tone from the start “by not making plays and letting them get the door open. We had a hard time shutting it.
