OLNEY, Ill. — Olney overcame an early two-run deficit to defeat Mt. Carmel 9-4 in baseball on Tuesday.

The Aces jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first, but Olney regrouped with three runs in the second and five more runs in the third inning.

Reece Metcalf led Mt. Carmel (3-11) at the plate with two hits. Austin Rue, Jared Piper, Thomas Allen and Ian Hipsher each had one hit.

Rue took the loss on the mound, working 2.1 innings. Kieffer Goldman allowed only one hit in 3.2 innings of relief.

“We put the ball in play today,” said Aces manager John Copeland. “We just have to tighten up defensively so we can keep ourselves in these ballgames.”

• The Aces JV team split a doubleheader against Red Hill on Wednesday, dropping the opener, 6-5, before pounding their way to a 17-8 win in the nitecap.
