OLNEY - Salem scored eight runs in the fourth inning to overtake Mt. Carmel and post a 13-3 victory in the 12-year-old District 1 tournament on Tuesday night.
The loss eliminated Mt. Carmel from the five-team tourney, coming after a 6-0 opening night loss to Olney on Monday.

Mt. Carmel jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With one out, Avery Calverley collected the first of his three hits followed by a line drive base hit by Blake Kight. Wade Ruth reached on a fielder’s choice with a force on Kight at second.

Calverley eventually scored on a passed ball, Ruth on a ground out. The score remained 2-0 until Salem’s rally in the fourth.

Mt. Carmel added a run in the fifth to pull to within 8-3. Calverley and Kight singled, with Calverley scoring on an RBI single by Ruth.

Salem then scored five runs in the home half of the fifth to take a 10-run lead.

Calverley finished 3-for-3 at the plate. Kight had two hits. Ruth and Luke Gould each had one hit with Gould picking up the other RBI.
