OLNEY, Ill. — The Mt. Carmel 12-year-old all-star baseball team was shut out on four hits by Olney pitching on Monday on the first night of the District 1 tournament.
The 6-0 loss to the two-time defending champions plunges the 12s into an elimination game tonight against Salem, which lost to Lawrenceville, 5-1, in the other first-round game.
Mt. Carmel, looking for its first district championship since 2006, must now play its way through the loser’s bracket in the double elimination tourney.
Wade Ruth finished 2-for-2 at the plate. Ryan Johnson and Jake Whetstone also picked up hits for Gary Odom’s team.
Tonight’s game begins at 5:30 p.m. Olney and Lawrenceville play at 7:30 p.m.
The winner of the Mt. Carmel-Salem game will face the loser of the Olney-Lawrenceville game on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
