MOUNT VERNON, ILL. -- The Aces hit the road again to play another Mt Vernon, the Illinois version this time, winning the match 3-0. Britton Heinrich scored the game's first goal 3 minutes in, assisted by Rayce Loudermilk. The rest of the first half saw no more goals though, ending at 1-0. Loudermilk and Heinrich would combine again, with Loudermilk giving the Aces a little breathing room, scoring with 20 minutes left on an assist by Heinrich. The pair would work together once again to add the Aces' 3rd goal in the 66th minute when Loudermilk scored his 2nd goal, again assisted by Heinrich. The Aces took 20 shots, 12 on goal, took 3 corner kicks & created 16 additional scoring chances. The Rams took 15 shots, 8 on goal, and took 4 corner kicks.
Three coaches of the Flora JFL football team resigned on Thursday night, as reaction continued to build concerning an ugly late-game incident against Mt. Carmel last Saturday, and a rather muted apology from coaches three days later. The move was announced on the Junior Wolves Facebook page just hours after their JFL opponent for this week, Olney, had decided to not play the game in protest.
According to the statement released Thursday, "with heavy hearts Flora JFL has accepted the resignation of coaches Brandon Helm, Nathan Boyer and Scott Vaughn."
