Wilkinson, Swanson tops in Library 5K

Considering it is June in southern Illinois, Saturday couldn’t have turned out any better for the seventh annual Library Foundation 5K run/walk.

The temperature was 64 degrees at race time, and wind was not a factor.

Not that the scenic 3.1-mile course that takes runners by the Wabash River didn’t present obstacles.

Hopper dedicates boxing win to his daughter

His young daughter, Lila, had watched him train for endless hours with a punching bag in his garage, and showed support as he trained for fights. Saturday night, when Wabash County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Hopper won his boxing match at the annual Guns Vs. Hoses benefit at Ford Center in Evansville, Lila was cheering him on. From heaven.

"Diamond Day" Saturday at WVC

An exciting day of events sponsored by Wabash Valley College and Youth in Action has been planned for Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. “Warrior Diamond Day” promises to be a fun-filled day of activities and free food for the youth.

Gill: 'My heart sank'

After running the iconic Marathon there for the first time in 2012, only a late registration had kept him out of this year’s race, which ended in tragedy on Monday. He should have been there.
