Hopper ready for rematch

Daniel Hopper probably does not like rematches any better than any boxer would. Especially when you were the winner the last time.

Yet, the Wabash County Sheriff’s deputy agreed to give Evansville firefighter Clint Hoskins a rematch in the upcoming Guns ‘N Hoses event Saturday at Ford Center in Evansville.

Aces runners win St. Mary's 10K race

Two Mt. Carmel freshman showed Saturday why the Golden Aces cross country program continues to get better and better.

Grady Wilkinson and Madeline Jones, both 15, won the longer half of the fifth annual St. Mary’s Mardi Gras 5K/10K run on the streets of Mt. Carmel.

Snow causes schedule changes

The 12 inches of snow that fell on Wabash County Friday did not immediately impact the local sports schedule. There were no events scheduled that day.

But when the digout couldn’t be accomplished over the weekend, that quickly changed. Six games were postponed on Saturday, with four more events knocked off today’s docket.

IHSA considers changes

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Illinois High School Association’s Legislative Commission has voted to refer 11 proposals that would amend the IHSA constitution and by-laws to a vote of the general membership. The Commission voted after hearing feedback from member school personnel at 28 town meetings, which were held around the state during November.

The ballot containing the proposals is now available to each member school. The deadline to submit the ballot is Jan. 1, 2014. A simple majority of votes cast will determine whether each proposal passes.

Bryce Thompson wins Grayville 5K

GRAYVLLE — Bryce Thompson did not hang up his running shoes after graduating from Mt. Carmel High School in the spring. Not by a long shot. The former Golden Aces track and cross country standout won the Grayville Days 5K on Saturday.
