Jr. soccer Aces close out

After learning that things don’t come easy in the ISL after a 0-0 draw with last-place Gibson Co., the Jr. soccer Aces made sure to leave no doubters on Wednesday in the home finale.  Mt. Carmel scored six goals in the first half and went on to a 9-2 non-league win over Albion on the WVC pitch. The victory assured a winning season for the 6-2-2 Aces, who have two game remaining in their season.

Junior Aces dominate in rematch with ESC

It was if the Junior soccer Aces had engaged themselves in a game of one-upmanship.

“As good as we looked offensively,” said coach Ed Berberich after Tuesday’s 4-1 ISL win over Evansville SC, “this was one of our best defensive games of the year.”

Aces all alone in 2nd after rally

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Even though nothing beats a come-from-behind victory, Junior soccer Aces coach Ed Berberich said “we’d rather start off with leads and hold them.”
His team’s flare for the dramatic worked again on Friday night, however, as the Aces rallied in the second half to post a 4-2 ISL victory over Owensboro United.

The win moves the Aces (3-2-1 in league play, 4-2-1 overall) into sole possession of second place in the 3rd Purple Division of the ISL, with 10 points.

They were tied with Evansville SC coming in, but now trail only undefeated Owensboro Ligers (5-0), a team which has crushed opponents to date by a combined score of 39-1.

Sunday’s Aces game at Washington was canceled because of weather. No make-up date has been announced as of yet.

“In a manner similar to a few games ago, we didn’t come out and play our best in the first half, putting ourselves in a bit of a hole,” said Berberich, whose team trailed 2-1 at the break, with only a goal by Carmen Deisher to show for the first half.

The Aces tied it up in the 40th minute on a goal by Simon Berberich, assisted by Ryan Webb. Webb scored a goal in thre 60th minute on a free kick, giving the Aces lead for good, 3-2. Berberich scored again four minutes later to boost the Aces lead to 4-2.

“This team has shown a great attitude in playing together when they’re in a tough spot,” Berberich said. “They did not get down on each other, but rather expressed confidence during halftime that we could come back and win this one.”

Mt. Carmel hosts third-place Evansville SC (2-2-1) on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. on the WVC pitch.

A bounce back win for Jr. Aces soccer team

Friday night the Junior Aces soccer team suffered through a 10-0 loss at Owensboro Ligers, “one of the best junior high teams I’ve ever seen, better than a lot of high school teams,” said coach Ed Berberich.

Sunday, back at home against the other Owensboro, Ky. team in the ISL, United, it was a different story. The Aces controlled the flow of the match and prevailed, 3-1, for their first league win of the young season.
