Nine is enough for Lady Aces

FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Due to illness and commitments, the Mt. Carmel girls track team took only nine athletes to the 10-team Fairfield Invitational Friday.

That was still good enough as the Lady Aces rolled to the championship with 155 points, easily outdistancing second-place Christopher (101 points). Flora (62), Patoka (58) and Eldorado (55) rounded out the top five.

Allendale, St. Mary's qualify six for state track meet

FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Wabash County will be well represented at the SIJHSAA Class S state track meet May 10 in Salem.

Allendale qualified two individuals in five events and two relays out of the regional meet Monday in Fairfield. St. Mary’s advanced one individual in three events.

St. Mary's close to a track sweep

Morgan York and Jackson Marcotte were the big winners in a junior high track meet Tuesday at Riverview Stadium.

York’s three wins led the St. Mary’s girls to a win in the three-team affair. Marcotte, meanwhile, took four events to pace Allendale in the boys meet.

St. Mary’s scored 80 points in the girls meet, followed by Allendale (63) and Jasper School (7). In the boys meet, Jasper edged St. Mary’s 57-53 for the crown, with Allendale third with 28 points.

Records fall at Benton girls track invite

BENTON, Ill. — Mt. Carmel added the Don Webb Invitational track meet to its schedule “to get our girls to face some excellent competition,” according to Lady Aces coach Kelly Buss.

Senior Tyra Buss used the tougher competition to her advantage. She tore through the record book at the 13-team meet, setting two individual marks and getting on a record-setting relay.

Mt. Carmel finished fourth as a team with 74 points. Carterville topped the field with 121 points, followed by Christopher (88) and Herrin (85.5). Following Mt. Carmel, host Benton took fifth with 45 points.

Lady Aces win 16-team track meet in Robinson

ROBINSON, Ill. — The Mt. Carmel Lady Aces won the prestigious 16-team Sam Bennett Invitational here Friday.

The Lady Aces, led by four event wins (three by Tyra Buss), finished with 85 points. Teutopolis took second with 80, followed by Neoga (77.5), Newton (72) and Shelbyville (58). Cumberland, Olney, Benton, Red Hill and Marshall rounded out the top 10.
