Peach, Whittler latest Aces heroes

CARTERVILLE, Ill. — They may have taken different paths to get there. But, Daxton Peach and Zach Whittler are now standing together at the top.
As  state champions.

Peach, in his third and final attempt at junior high glory, won the high jump at the SIJHSAA state meet in Carterville. Meanwhile, Whittler won the seventh grade 100 meter dash in his first trip to the state meet on Saturday, thereby stamping himself as the man to beat in next year’s race as an eighth grader.

Marcotte, Peacock York multiple winners at WEAA track meet

FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Allendale’s Jackson Marcotte and St. Mary's Bailee Peacock and Morgan York were the biggest local winners in the WEAA Conference track meet held on Tuesday.

Marcotte, a seventh grader, won two events to lead the Yellowjackets to a third place finish in the boys meet. Peacock was a double winner along with her eighth grade teammate York as the Lady Rockets finished second in the girls meet.

Buss, relay qualify for state

TROY, Ill. — The Mt. Carmel girls track team, bumped into the larger Class 2A division for this year’s track post-season, will still be sending athletes to next weekend’s IHSA state meet at Eastern Illinois University.

Junior Tyra Buss qualified for her third state track appearance and will go in three events while being joined by her teammates on the 4x400 relay which also advanced on.

Boonville wins Big 8 boys title

PRINCETON, Ind. - Boonville was the class of the Big 8 Conference boys track meet on Thursday. The Pioneers won the league title by a comfortable margin.

The 126 points scored by Boonville was enough for a 43-point win, but five teams were jumbled closely after that. Mt. Vernon was second with 83 points, followed by Vincennes Lincoln with 79 points, Jasper with 73 and Washington wit 66 points. Princeton took sixth with 53 points, ahead of Mt. Carmel (12 points).
