MT. VERNON, Ill. - There was still plenty of good to come out of Thursday’s five-team golf tournament on the Green Hills Golf Club course here for Mt. Carmel, despite a second-place finish.
Though the Aces lost to Nashville for the top spot by 14 strokes, they won’t have to deal with the Hornets again this year, because the winners will play in the Class 1A ranks next month when post-season play begins.
The Aces did, however, defeat two teams they will see Oct. 7 in the IHSA Class 2A regional, besting Mt. Vernon by six shots and Marion by nine.
Woodlawn finished last in the field with a 183, 35 shots behind Nashville’s winning score of 148.

OLNEY, Ill. - With his Mt. Carmel boys golf team apparently in a late-season slump, veteran John White said there is still time to get things turned around before the IHSA Class 2A Regional tournament on Oct. 7.
It was “another disappointing round by us” here on Wednesday, White said. “We have a week and a half to get things straightened out.”
The Golden Aces finished in the middle of a triangular, their team score of 167 one stroke short of winner Effingham St. Anthony. Host Olney finished well off the pace at 186.

Both the Mt. Carmel Aces and Lady Aces golf teams recorded easy home wins Monday - albeit against different opponents - as the regular-season enters its’ final two weeks.
The Aces defeated Olney by 24 strokes while the Lady Aces downed Mt. Vernon, Ill. by 69 shots.
