EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — The Lady Aces tennis team split four matches over the weekend at the Heather Bradshaw tournament.
Mt. Carmel went 2-2 in matches played, losing to Morton and Springfield High by identical 3-2 margins, before bouncing back to defeat Peoria Richwoods, 3-2, and Burbank Reavis, 6-3.
The Lady Aces tennis team is not afraid to come out swinging.
Perhaps the toughest match of the year is tonight’s season opener against Olney. The match begins at 4:15 p.m. on the Wabash Valley College Courts.
“They’re just deep with experience,” said Bramlet of the Lady Tigers.
Davis Vargo was chosen as the winner of the Golden Racquet Award, the MVP award for the Golden Aces boys tennis team.
Vargo, a senior on the 2013 squad, advanced to state with Doug Sievers in doubles play. Sievers was also honored for qualifying for state at the Aces awards banquet, held at Kelly O’s.
Levi James received the Sportsmanship award, Sean Willis took the Hustle award and Cameron Kieffer won the award for most improved player.
Nick Whetstone, a senior on the team, won the Triangle Award, which is presented on the basis of academics, citizenship and athletics. Nick Leighty was named the winner of the Mental Attitude award.
Patty Bramlet is the coach of the Aces.
