Mandatory tennis meeting Wednesday

A mandatory meeting for those wanting to play on the Lady Aces tennis team and parents is scheduled for Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Wabash Valley College tennis courts.
Physicals need to be turned in at that meeting, according to coach Patty Bramlet.

No Aces tennis team, but individuals will play on

Because of low numbers, the Mt. Carmel boys tennis team will not play any scheduled matches this spring.

Instead, the three players coach Patty Bramlet has out for the team could play as individuals when the IHSA state tournament series begins in May.

Lady Aces put 4 on all-south tennis team

The Mt. Carmel tennis Aces, who took a large group to the state tournament, have landed a large group on the Southern Illinois Coaches Association all-south team.

Leading the team is senior Tyra Buss, who won the MVP award for the fourth straight year. Also landing spots were senior Malarie Hargrave, junior Hannah Seaton and junior Elise Thomason. All four played at the state tournament in Chicago.

Lady Aces win sectional tennis title

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Tyra Buss will have lots of company when she heads to her fourth straight state tournament this weekend.
Mt. Carmel not only qualified Buss, who won her fourth consecutive IHSA sectional singles championship Saturday, but also singles player Hannah Seaton and the doubles team of Malarie Hargrave and Elise Thomason.
The Lady Aces piled up enough points to win their second sectional tite in school history, and first since 2007.

Doubles victory keys Aces win

FLORA, Ill. — Malarie Hargrave was under the weather on Tuesday, but decided to play her singles match against Flora anyway.

Though she lost that match 6-5, 6-1, Hargrave “got a second wind after singles,” according to Lady Aces coach Patty Bramlet, and took the court with No. 1 doubles partner Elise Thomason. The two won a third-set tiebreaker, 10-4, a win that clinched a 5-4 Aces victory.

Tennis Aces win 6th

CASEY, Ill. - Mt. Carmel won for the sixth time on Tuesday with a 7-2 tennis victory over Casey-Westfield.

Tennis Aces blank Herrin

It must have been a long bus ride home to Herrin after the Tigers went the whole day without winning one tennis match against Mt. Carmel Monday on the WVC courts.

Hargrave tiebreaker wins it for Aces

Malarie Hargrave may have been playing No. 3 singles for the Lady Aces on Wednesday against visiting Carbondale. But, by the time her match ended, she was carrying the entire weight of the team on her shoulders.

Tennis Aces win Herrin tourney

HERRIN, Ill. — The Mt. Carmel Lady Aces tennis team won three individual titles en route to the team championship at the Herrin Invitational on Saturday.

The Aces, coached by Patty Bramlet, piled up 21 points to easily outdistance the field. The host Tigers and Mahomet-Seymour finished in a tie for second place with 11 points. Massac County and Peru St. Bede were next, with nine points each, good for a tie for fourth. Carmi finished in sixth (8 points), followed by Metro East-Lutheran (4) and Herrin’s JV team (3).

Lady Aces split in tennis tourney

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — The Lady Aces tennis team split four matches over the weekend at the Heather Bradshaw tournament.

Mt. Carmel went 2-2 in matches played, losing to Morton and Springfield High by identical 3-2 margins, before bouncing back to defeat Peoria Richwoods, 3-2, and Burbank Reavis, 6-3.
