Aces 4th at Kokopelli

MARION, Ill. - Mt. Carmel golf coach John White said what freshman Blake Golden accomplished at one southern Illinois’ toughest courses was “pretty incredible.”
Golden tamed the tough Kokopelli Golf Course layout Wednesday, firing a four-over par 76 to lead the Golden Aces to a fourth-place finish at a tournament hosted by Marion.
White said what made Golden’s play stand out is that it was “the first time he had ever seen the course.”

Lady Aces avenge lone golf defeat

ELDORADO, Ill. – Mt. Carmel’s only girls golf defeat of the season came on opening day, when the Lady Aces finished second to Eldorado in the Mt. Carmel Invitational on Aug. 18. Tuesday, the Lady Aces avenged that loss while turning in their 27th straight win since.

Mt. Carmel edged Eldorado by three shots on the Saline Country Club course. Abbey Leighty led the way for the Lady Aces with a round of 35, one shot off the medalist pace set by Taylor Goodley of Eldorado who fired a 34.

Lady Aces win Big 8 golf championship

BOONVILLE, Ind.— Mt. Carmel has left its mark in yet another Big 8 Conference sport.
The Lady Aces golf team captured their first-ever Big 8 title Saturday, edging five-time defending champion Jasper by two shots on the Boonville Country Club course.
It is the fourth sport in which Mt. Carmel has won a league crown, joining boys golf, football and girls basketball.
“We never get tired of breaking school records,” said coach Karin Kelsey. “This team will go down in the record books as the first Big 8 Conference champions. The girls just did an incredible job.”

Lady Aces win Olney Invitational

OLNEY, Ill. - The Mt. Carmel Lady Aces won the championship at the 7-team Olney Invitational in a rout Wednesday.
The Lady Aces recorded a team round of 162, which was 21 shots better than second-place Effingham (183). Mattoon finished third (187), followed by Charleston (201), Salem (213) and Paris (260). Oblong did not have enough players for a team score.
There was a three-way tie for team medalist honors. Jordan Keepes, Abbey Leighty and Morgan Tewell all fired rounds of 40 to lead the way. Mallory Raber and Mary Schroeder were next at 42.
Lauren Chappell of Charleston won the tournament with a 37, two shots ahead of Alex Brummer of Effingham. The Mt. Carmel triumverate finished three shots back.
The Lady Aces are now 20-1 on the year. They are idle until next week.

Women's Club plays 'Beat The Pro'

MT. CARMEL—The Mt. Carmel Women’s golf club played “Beat the Pro” Wednesday.
The ladies who beat the pro with handicap were: Marilyn Broster, Judy Donahue, Lynda Deal, Ruth Ann Henager, Faye Rodgers and Karen Barker.
