"Gold Out" volleyvall fundraiser on Thursday at MCMS

Plans have been finalized for the “Rally For Riley’s Gold Out Night” volleyball fund raiser at Mt. Carmel Middle School on Thursday night.
Proceeds from the evening activities will go to Riley’s Children’s Hospital and childhood cancer research.

The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a scrimmage game involving MCMS sixth grade players. Then at 6 p.m., the seventh grade game between the Junior Lady Aces and St. Mary’s will begin.

At the conclusion of the seventh grade game, there will be a 15-minute serving contest for fans in attendance. For $1, each participant will be able to serve a volleyball. If the serve lands in a designated spot, the contestant will win a prize. There will also be a raffle for several prizes, with values ranging from $10 to $40, donated by local businesses. Tickets for the raffle will be $1 each, or six for $5.

When the serving contest and raffle have been completed, warm ups for the eighth grade game between the MCMS and the Lady Rockets will take place. Each team will be outfitted with customized gold jerseys for the games.

Bob Bowser at MCMS and Sue Thompson at NICE are coordinating the event. They would like to thank the following businesses who have graciously donated prizes: McDonald’s, Tropic Tan, Kelly O’s Pizza, Little Italy’s, Family Video, Hogg Heaven, MoJo Espresso/Tropical Sno, Long John Silvers, Famous J’s, Subway, Melanie Linson, First National Bank and Old National Bank.

Edwards County takes 4th at state

Edwards County came home with hardware from the IHSA Class 2A state volleyball tournament in Normal on Saturday. But, it wasn’t the hardware the Lady Lions were hoping for. The Lions finished fourth at the state tourney at Redbird Arena, after losing to Port Byron Riverdale, 2 games to 1, in the third-place game on Saturday afternoon. On Friday, the Lions lost to Dakota in straight sets, in the semifinals.
