Lady Warriors win, stay on top

CENTRALIA, Ill. — The Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors solidified their hold on first place in the GRAC softball race with a doubleheader sweep at Kaskaskia on Thursday.

Trampe, Chapman tame Falcons

HARRISBURG, Ill. — Amanda Trampe and Kalyn Chapman both threw complete game shutouts to lead Wabash Valley to a doubleheader sweep of Southeastern Illinois in GRAC softball on Wednesday.

The identical 4-0 wins boosted the Lady Warrior record to 15-1 in the league and increased their lead over idle Lake Land (11-1) to two games in the GRAC standings though the teams are tied on the loss side. WVC is 19-5 overall.

Lady Aces fall to Edwards County

Edwards County defeated Mt. Carmel, 17-5, in non-conference softball on Tuesday at the 4th St. ballpark. The game was shortened to six innings due to the 10-run rule.

Wabash, Lake Land split in key matchup

The Wabash Valley and Lake Land softball rivalry has gone back and forth in the recent past. Last year, it was the Lakers turn to dominate in GRAC and Region 24 play.

This year neither team appears to have the upper hand. “This year, I think it’s a pretty even matchup,” said WVC coach Paul Schnarre. “We are a lot alike in a lot of different ways. Whenever we play it will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes.”

That parity was on display Thursday at the field that bears Schnarre’s name. The teams were both undefeated in GRAC play before the day’s doubleheader. Now, neither team is after a split.

Chapman keeps Lady Warriors perfect

Wabash Valley remains undefeated in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference softball race thanks in large part to the relief pitching of Kalyn Chapman on Wednesday.
