Aces ready for battle-tested Anna-Jonesboro

MT. CARMEL - The hype surrounding this year’s young Golden Aces football team increased dramatically when the pairings for the  Class 3A tournament were released last Saturday by the Illinois High School Association.

Veteran head coach Darren Peach was left to temper the enthusiasm generated mostly by fans. “The draw means nothing unless you take advantage of it,” Peach said. “Our guys have done a good job all year of focusing on the game at hand. The most important game is not two weeks from now or three weeks from now. It’s this Saturday.”

Aces release playoff information

Mount Carmel High School will host Anna Jonesboro Saturday in the first round of the IHSA Class 3A football playoffs. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. The gates to Riverview Stadium will open at 11:30 am. Admission will be $5.00 each and no passes will be accepted.

There will be no advance ticket sales.

Aces win, nab Class 3A home game

MT. CARMEL – Mt. Carmel’s football resiliency on Friday night netted it a grand prize when the post-season playoff pairings were announced on Saturday.

Having already clinched a berth in the IHSA playoffs with their sixth win of the season one week earlier, the Golden Aces 40-30 non-conference victory over Mt. Vernon, Ill., No. 7 coming as it did after an early 14-0 deficit, was good enough to net a first-round home game when the Class 3A pairings were revealed by the IHSA at around 8:30 p.m.

Mt. Carmel (7-2 and ranked seventh in the AP Class 3A poll) will host Anna-Jonesboro Saturday in the first-round. The kickoff time and ticket sales information will be announced sometime Monday.
